Ga Kenkey
I am a staple dish
Prepared from a sour dough dumpling
I come already cooked in Jacket
You can call me Otim borga in the market.
My name is Kenkey
Also known as Kormi
Also known as Otim
Also known as Dokpetey!
These are my names and AKA's within the Ga communities
In fact, they are my faithful patrons
In the Akan communities, they call me Dorkonoo.
With many names given to me in other W. African countries
I know you do enjoy me as well
Let me know how I'm called in your local language.
My stock serves as a tasty corn wine at my wake
People do enjoy me with soups and stew
Especially tomato sauce
Me I do not know their source
But my best companion is Kpakpo Shitor and Salmon
All others, I will later summon.
Once eaten,
Be prepared to chug in a gallon of water every hour
No big deal, just to release my inner power
Many people complain of my high carbo. Content
Little did they know, in that lies my energy potent.
Not to talk of my high roughage presence in each ball
A good companion when nature calls.
To the manual worker, I'm a trustworthy companion
Providing them with the needed energy all day long
An economic benefit to their pockets
Upon all these good deeds of mine
I'm yet to receive my peace of mind
I am not seen in many homes
To them, I'm too local and lone
But if they care to know!
I am an international delicacy
Where I'm enjoyed without conditions
To the Jamaicans, they call me Dorkunoo or tie-a-leaf
Aaah! This people paa
Tie what leaf?
But to them I give much relief.
To the Trinidad's, they call me Konkee
How I wish I'm known among the Yankees.
My own Ghana people I need to re-orient
Before they throw me away ball by ball out of the continent.
So anytime you look at me
With that local eyes of yours!
Just bear in mind
That you are looking at a ball of local Kenkey
With an international reputation.

Thanks for showing some love.
